Bernward Geier

1953. Born as third of seven children of Erwin Geier and his wife Erna-Maria

Married. Four children

1974 - 1976 Peace service and social work (instead of military) for

18 months in the Ghetto of Washington D.C./USA.

1976 - 1977 Study of Spanish language and Latin American cultural history

at the National University (UNAM) in Mexico City.

1977 - 1980 Practical learning on various conventional, organic and bio-

dynamic farms in Germany.

1978 - 1981 Study of agriculture at the University of Kassel/Witzenhausen

(Germany).

1981 - 1987 Scientific research (focus on non-chemical weed control) and teaching

at the University of Kassel

1987 - 1993 Partner in an organic farm (120 ha, 60 dairy cows) in

Tholey-Theley/Germany.

1986 - 2005 Director of IFOAM (International Federation of Organic Agriculture)

the global umbrella organisation of organic farming (770 member

organisations in 105 countries ; web: www.ifoam.org).

Since 2002 Running together with wife Birgit a small certified organic farm (12ha)

with focus on Icelandic horse breeding.

Since 2005 Director COLABORA -Agency (Communications, Fundraising & Events

.

* Lecturing activities, moderation and seminar experience in about 80 countries

* Active in the field of agricultural & environmental politics and policies

* Consultancy, advocacy and lobby experiences include UNO, FAO, UNEP, WTO, OECD and EU - Commission, as well as national governments and ministries.

* Cooperation activities include Greenpeace, IUCN, WWF and PAN

* Advisor for and activist with Slow Food International.

* Member of the International Federation of Agricultural Journalists (IFAJ) and for 20 years editor of “Ecology & Farming” magazine.

* Author of the book “Saving seeds from your own organic garden”. Editor and co-author of many books on organic farming and related subjects. Some 100 popular and scientific publications are published.
